I totally agree with you about this Atkinson's novel. I read it at the time of its publication and found it utterly compelling, intense, deep and full of character. Might re-read it now. Thanks for highlighting it.
Agreed. I picked it up out of curiosity from my library because I have enjoyed some of her later novels. I had no idea that her debut was so accomplished.
I haven't read that one! Into the TBR list it goes. Of her more recent books, I really enjoyed Transcription, which appealed to the espionage-fiction junkie in me.
I cannot wait to read this. I believe that I am going to see eye to eye with the protagonist in her simultaneously true-false assessment of the world around her.

I read this on publication and was entranced. This piece made me want to re-read - so much I’ve forgotten, and I’m sure there’s a lot I missed first time round.
Love Atkinson. I think my favourite is A God In Ruins which I was completely spellbound by, and then whoosh! all the air comes out of the balloon!
