The Comic Body in Historical Fiction, or, the Hilarity of the Public Fart
A bit of lagniappe for premium subscribers
Dear reader:
The following is a version of a paper that I gave recently at the London Arts-Based Research Centre conference on The Function of Humor. Since we are beginning The Miller’s Tale this week in the Chaucer Reading Challenge, and the paper begins with that tale, it seemed like a good time to publish this. This also is connected to earlier posts on the body in historical fiction that you may find in the archive. (See here and here.) There will be more to come as I work towards completion of my book project on the subject. Enjoy!
Yours,
John
