Sadly no. I always used to host one in Hong Kong and Vienna, but with my son’s birthday on the 19th it’s no longer ideal! Will hope for an invite next year 😅
Christmas markets opened yesterday though! Enjoy the holiday ☺️
Thank you for the Haydn recommendation which is now playing through my headphones!
Here's my musical share... Polovtsian Dances (which is overplayed on classical music stations in my opinion) from the opera Prince Igor by Borodin. I saw a production of it in Moscow in the 90s and the twirling of the chorus in vibrant patterned dresses has stayed with me all these years.
I'm also thankful for APS Together's read of The New Grub Street by Gissing here on Substack. I need the structure of online reading clubs to help get me through longer books. Although the story takes place in the late nineteenth century it could be transposed to modern times, ruminating on the question whether and how one can stay true to their art and make a living.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the Haydn. I love the Borodin. Have you checked out Simon Haisell’s Footnotes and Tangents? He’s doing a read-through of *War and Peace* and of the Hilary Mantel Cromwell trilogy.
Yes! I'm queued up for Wolf Crawl. I've read War and Peace (a long time ago; I was a Russian language and lit major). I might give it another go next time he does that slow read... Love his Stack!
Happy holiday - thank you for these musical recs, especially as pairings with Austen! Looking forward to listening while reading this weekend 🌼
Thanks for all this wonderful music and tasty texts!
Happy Thanksgiving, John!
And to you too, Kate! Is there an expat celebration in Basel?
