I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And yes, it’s a real virtuoso piece of conducting--to bring those three sections together in that space to such brilliant effect. And I’m always happy to evangelize for RVW!

While watching the video for Fantasia on a Theme (and by the way, I watched it right where you placed it in the article before reading on), I was immediately struck by the director’s equal focus on both the music and the architecture. They complimented one another so perfectly. Then, when I read your explanation that the music was written for that very space, I was thrilled to realize my intuition was in the right place. The video does a wonderful job exploring the depth and dimension of the space that we can’t hear without being there in person. This entire article was so brilliantly put together. Thank you for introducing this Tolkien admirer to Vaughan Williams, as well. Such a perfect pairing, perfectly presented.

Did a restack of this lovely essay that includes that magical Vaughn Williams composition, John. Also, I've been reading your books in progress to help with the answer to your q. Not sure how I found the link, but I've got it and read all I could find. When I email you after the post goes up on Friday, I'll probably discuss some of what I've read—privately with you. As I do read all the Substacks of folks who ask a q and also subscribe.
